Protect your Awning

Protect your Awning

At the moment we're averaging one, sometimes two, roll out awning replacements a week due to damage from wind. Whilst our small business appreciates your work ... we'd rather see you out enjoying the use of your caravan and roll out awning. Roll out caravan awnings are quick and easy to put up and create great outdoor living areas for both cooking and relaxing.

Unfortunately, they're also easily damaged in bad weather if not secured and tensioned correctly.

With that in mind, please consider the following:

  • Secure the awning roller to the ground with strong ropes or ratchet straps. There are fit for purpose awning roller clips and tie down kits available.
  • The awning ‘legs’ can be detached from the RV and moved into the vertical position. If you detach the legs it's a good idea to peg them down securely. Also, consider leaving them attached in really bad weather or areas of high wind.
  • Prevent your awning from flapping in the wind by using de-flappers or an anti flap kit.
  • Curved roof rafters can be used to keep your awning material taut in wind and rain. They're designed to prop up your awning with a gentle curve to stop water pooling and flapping.
  • Position the awning roller correctly so water doesn't pool on top. In heavy rain set up the awning with one end set one notch lower so that water will run off.

Even in seemingly calm weather, it's a good idea to secure your awning.

If you take good care of your awning; check for problems regularly; tie them down; and let them dry before rolling up ... they'll last a lot longer.

Please give us a call if you have any questions regarding your roll out awning or the accessories available to ensure it's secure and taut.
